August 8, 2023 Update

Dear Valued Guests,

A new positive update has been received from Parks Canada regarding the repair of Miette Road. Geo-technical Engineers have approved a plan to repair the road immediately and anticipate an opening on August 25th or sooner. Single lane alternating traffic at the wash out site will be implemented after an existing contractor in the Park mobilizes equipment to back fill the affected area and carve out additional space on the remaining portion of the road. This will create safe passage for our guests and visitors to the Hot Springs. We are now in the process of recalling staff to prepare for operations and updating our website with this new information. We anticipate another update from Parks Canada at the end of this week and will notify guests with any new information. We look forward to welcoming all our guests soon!

July 20, 2023 update:
On June 19th and 20th the Miette Valley experienced a severe and extreme weather event. This included very heavy rain and unprecedented snow fall. This caused significant and catastrophic damage to our road. This downed dozens of trees and triggered mud slides which have cut off our telephone lines. The Miette Road was then closed to all. Sadly this meant we would not be able to accommodate our dear guests until the road was repaired and deemed safe. New messaging from Parks Canada now suggests that we may not see this reopening until August 20th or later. A Geo-technical Engineer’s assessment that was expected mid to late July has come back with preliminary findings that recommend extensive work must be done to ensure the road is safe to cross. This work will not start until ADDITIONAL core samples are taken and a new and final report is generated. This won’t be seen until the first week of August. Not until then will contractors attempt to repair our road. Parks Canada has advised that this may take 2 weeks or more to plan, execute and finalize. This is incredibly difficult news for our little team to hear and have to pass on to all of you. Sadly we have no choice but to force cancel all who have booked during this period. We sincerely apologize that this will negatively impact and inconvenience you and your family this summer. Our little team is equally as heartbroken that we can not welcome you at this time.

Please visit the government operated Miette Hot Springs Website for details, early pictures and updates. A Superintendent’s Order is in effect and the road will remain closed until further notice.

We have now closed out our availability for the 2023 season and will reopen our booking systems when we have a confirmed date of reopening. For those August guests who have booked with us directly, your confirmation of cancellation will be processed and sent to you via email within the next 72 hours. We are truly heartbroken that we must force cancel your stay with us. We kindly ask that all guests that have been force cancelled respond to their cancellation confirmation with “Received”.

All bookings for August 20th and beyond are still considered active and valid. For those guests who would prefer to cancel due to the uncertainty, please email us with your request to cancel.

Our telephone lines remain down until crews can safely access our property. Our staff have been evacuated and are safely being housed in Jasper until reopening. A very small team remains on site to oversee critical infrastructure/equipment and manage our booking system via SAT WIFI. We do not have cell coverage on our little mountain and any questions or concerns can be sent via email to reservationdesk@miettebungalows.com

We will do our very best to assist under the circumstances. Please give us time to respond as we are few and questions will be many.

A reminder that Miette Hot Springs Bungalows does not take a deposit at the time of booking. Credit cards are simply per-authorized for the first night stay to guarantee and hold your reservation. This results in a temporary hold for 5-10 business days and is seen as a PENDING transaction on your online credit card statement. This amount is released at the end of that 5-10 day period.

Most Sincerely,

The Virlas Family and The Miette Hot Springs Bungalows Team
